Gaining Muscles without Eating Meat
While eating protein in forms other than meat is good for you, working out and not getting sufficient protein can be quite dangerous Plan ahead. When going out to exercise, you should be thinking about this days in advance. You will need to keep hydrated the entire week before, and begin eating for the exercise at least a day in advance.
The day(s) before. You want to look into low fat options, or in the very least, low Saturated and Trans fat foods. You will want high carbs and some protein which are high in foods like duck fillet recipes. The dinner the day before is particularly important, you're going to want something like pasta, which is high in the long term carbs, and (especially if whole grain) high in fiber.
The day of, Breakfast. In the morning you're going to want a mixture of carbs and protein. Oatmeal is usually a good option, as it does have some protein and a lot of carbs. You will also want juice (no sugar added) or fruit.
The day of, Lunch. This is a complicated meal. You will again need a combination of protein and carbohydrates. But protein and fat slow down one's metabolism, and this usually is a during or close to workout meal. Look for something like, a turkey sandwich is a good option, lots of veggies, not too much sauce/dressing.
The day of, Dinner. Protein, protein, protein. But, if you're also working out tomorrow, you'll need some carbs, too. So a good option (not vegetarian) would be something like Sukiyaki (a Japanese dish), which has meat, tofu, noodles, and veggies. A great balance and a lot of protein. Anything with tofu is really a great option, particularly if you throw in some rice.
The day after. You still need to think back to your workout. If you want top results, you're going to be thinking about a single day's workout for a whole week (3 days on both sides). Keep drinking water, this is always a good way to look and feel better. Continue eating lightly, breakfast should be high carb, some protein. Lunch should be the only meal to incorporate fat, look for unsaturated fats, preferably mono.
